Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The paper has not been previously published or considered for publication by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the editor).
  • The file containing the paper is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF format.
  • Whenever possible, references must include URL addresses.
  • The text is written with 1.5 spacing in a size 12 Times New Roman Font, uses italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses), and all its illustrations, figures and tables are located in their corresponding place in the text (not at the end).
  • The text meets the style and bibliographical requirements summarized in the Author Guidelines featured in the About the Journal section.

Author Guidelines

Papers will be accepted under the following CONDITIONS:

  1. They must be unpublished, up to date, and make relevant theoretical and/or empirical contributions, especially those related to the main topic of an issue of the journal. They may be written in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese.
  2. Once a text has been submitted for review, its author makes a commitment not to submit it for publication in a different journal or media outlet.
  3. Every paper submitted for publication will undergo a review process consisting of the following stages:
    1. A first review to determine if the paper meets the minimum requirements established for each type of contribution.
    2. If it does, the paper will be evaluated through a double-blind peer review to ensure strictness, anonymity and confidentiality.
    3. The reviewers will report the results of their evaluation as follows: accepted without modifications, accepted with modifications, or not accepted. In case of disagreement between the reviewers, a third reviewer’s evaluation will be required.
    4. The author will be notified of the results of the review and asked to attend to the reviewers’ recommendations, if any.
  4. The author must obtain permission to publish any illustration, figure or graph used in the paper that is not of his/her authorship.
  5. The author must also sign over the editorial rights once the paper is approved and ready for publication.

 Types of papers published in the journal

Research articles

Original papers on research (completed or in progress) which contribute to the building of knowledge in their field. Such papers must include:

  • Abstract: up to 230 words in English and Spanish, describing succinctly the subject of study, theoretical perspective and methodological approach, as well as five key words in both languages
  • Introduction: background data supporting the relevance of the study, its theoretical perspective, formulation of the problem or research question, and proposed objectives.
  • Methodology: a description of the empirical work, construction of the study case and tools used for collecting information.
  • Development: an overview of the research work, including the analysis made in the light of the particular case study, as well as the originality and relevance of the work.
  • Results: presented in a clear and concise form. Tables, graphics, images, diagrams or maps may be included.
  • References: the literature and sources used by the author to build the theoretical framework and analyze the results.

Research articles must be between 15 and 30 pages long, with notes, tables, graphics and images included in the body of the text.

Critical essays. Theoretical texts (15 to 25 pages) focusing on subjects related to the fields of education and social sciences. Texts related to the state of the art contributing up to date information to a particular subject or theoretical perspective are welcome, as well as works reformulating or conceptualizing study and methodological proposals. They should include an introduction, development, final considerations, and must include bibliographical references.

Reviews.  Texts that provide critical and in-depth reviews of books, articles, lectures, or artistic and cultural expressions dealing with issues relevant to the main topic of an issue of our journal. All reviews must have an original title and complete references about the work(s) being reviewed, and must be between three and five pages long.

General features of manuscripts submitted

In every case, texts submitted for publication must include the authors’ full name(s), most recent academic degree(s), institutional adscription, lines of research and email address. They must be written in RTF or Word format, or any other Windows-compatible text processor, with 1.5 spacing and in a size 12 Times New Roman font. Bibliographical and other references must be included at the end of the document in alphabetical order and according to the norms established in the style handbook of the American Psychological Association.

Main topic

Unpublished or updated papers that make relevant theoretical and/or empirical contributions – especially in regard to main topic of the current issue of Diálogos sobre educación – may be submitted for publication. The papers may be written in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese.

Reviews

Texts that provide an in-depth and critical account of books, articles, lectures or artistic and cultural expressions dealing with any topic that is relevant and pertinent to an issue of Diálogos sobre educación. The text may be between three and five pages long and must include an original title and a full reference of the work being reviewed.
