Participation is a right and also an educational process; moreover, it is one of the most important aspects to consider for the democratization of school life; however, the literature review indicates that the experiences of participation in the school environment are limited. Thus, a qualitative study was carried out to analyze the perception that students of high school have of their participation in the school context. A written instrument was applied to 166 students from two schools in Mexico City. The results show that their ideas are related to giving their opinions and contributing ideas, and therefore claim that they participate. As in studies conducted at previous educational levels, in high school, the school is also recognized as the main area of participation, which is a relevant finding because the school is a privileged space for the exercise of citizenship.
